Also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), what sets The McKenzie Method apart from other physical therapy techniques is our innovative assessment process - a safe, reliable means to accurately reach a diagnosis and only then create the appropriate treatment plan. The step-by-step framework and problem-solving algorithm allow you to know right away if the method will work for your patient, eliminating the need for expensive, time-consuming tests and further evaluation." - The McKenzie Institute® USA
Work Injury Management
Maximum Rehabilitation Services’ Work Injury Management program is an individualized, work-oriented program designed to restore a patient's strength, endurance, movement and flexibility for a safe and quick return to work. Our Work Injury Management program is designed to provide the strengthening, conditioning, body mechanics education and job simulation necessary to enable the worker to progress to the point of returning to work.
A work conditioning program typically lasts between 2-6 weeks. This time can vary depending upon the physical demand level of the job and/or how quickly the patient can reach their work goals. A work conditioning patient is seen 2-5 times per week for 2-4 hours per day depending on physician referral and patient progress.
Work Conditioning & Hardening Goals include increased:
Muscular strength
Muscular endurance
Active range of motion
Tolerance to work similar tasks
Functional strength for tasks involving lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling
Knowledge of correct posture and body mechanics while performing functional tasks
Knowledge of symptom-control techniques and independent modalities
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
Maximum Rehabilitation Services’ Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is designed to collect information regarding physical abilities to determine whether or not a patient can return to previous job duties. FCE's are generally used as part of a Workmen's Compensation claim or after an injury that inhibits the patient from returning to work.
What Happens During an FCE?
An in-depth questionnaire is used to determine other conditions and specific limitations the patient may have, whether directly or indirectly related to your job duties. It gives baseline pain values and a general idea of what types of activities exacerbate pain levels. FCEs utilize real and simulated workstations to evaluate the patient's abilities. These stations are used to mimic the types of physical activities the patient may perform on the job.
Workstations include anything from lifting, pushing/pulling, squatting with and without weights, overhead activities and endurance activities, such as maintaining a position for a specified length of time or walking for a specified distance, plus any other work-specific activities you may perform when at work.
Through these standardized tests, consistency effort measurements are taken to establish the level of work that can be performed. It can identify whether there is a need for special accommodations in order for the patient to return to work. An FCE can take several hours to complete, depending on the scope of testing.

Vestibular & Balance Therapy
In the process of vestibular and balance therapy treatments, Maximum Rehabilitation Services’ highly trained therapists evaluate the patient's balance, gait, posture and the patient's compensatory habits and responses. After the evaluation, our therapists will design a specific individualized balance therapy treatment plan of exercises and retraining for the head, body and eyes to retrain the vestibular system.
Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT)
"Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is an exercise-based program designed to promote central nervous system compensation for inner ear deficits.
When the vestibular organs are damaged with disease or injury, the brain can no longer rely on them for accurate information about equilibrium and motion, often resulting in dizziness, vertigo, balance problems, and other symptoms. Many people are able to recover from these symptoms on their own after a few weeks of normal activity because the brain has adapted with a process called vestibular compensation.
However, if the vestibular compensation process is not successful, a person's ability to maintain posture and coordinate balance may become overly dependent on input from the eyes (vision) and muscles and joints (proprioception). In addition, the person may develop new patterns of head and body movement in an attempt to avoid dizziness and nausea. For example, a person with a vestibular disorder might adopt an exaggerated hip sway as a method of balancing, swivel the entire body rather than just the head when turning to look at something, or always look down at the floor to avoid what appears to be a confusing swirl of activity. Unfortunately, these strategies can make vestibular compensation even more difficult, worsening symptoms and often causing headache, muscle tension, and fatigue.
The goal of VRT is to retrain the brain to recognize and process signals from the vestibular system in coordination with vision and proprioception. This often involves desensitizing the balance system to movements that provoke symptoms." - Vestibular Disorders Association
